signed lower left, framed, original frame. "Elisabeth Wolf, a pupil of Lovis Corinth, is considered one of the most important artists in East Germany between the wars, whose most important works were created in the 1920s and 1930s, although a studio fire in 1945 destroyed much of this work. The present work from 1934 shows an atmospheric, beautiful city veduta of Berlin in the snow. The painter contrasts the expressively heightened blue and white snow with yellow iridescent areas of colour and a few red accents, which gives the entire picture a colour dynamic. The skilfully placed shadow of the church in the foreground creates a strong spatial effect that extends to the Impressionist background. Without doubt a major work by the artist."
