Nicolás Enríquez (Mexico, 1704 - 1790) "Saint Joseph with the Child" Oil on copper. Signed. 31 x 23cm. Nicolás Enríquez was a member of the first Academy of painters established in Mexico around 1722 by the brothers Nicolás and Juan Rodríguez Juárez, and he is considered one of the best artists of the time painting on copper. The Metropolitan Museum of New York acquired a series of five oil paintings on copper by the Mexican painter Nicolás Enríquez in 2014, to enrich its collection of New Spanish art. This series was commissioned to Enríquez in 1773 by the Basque merchant Juan Bautista Echeverría. Colonial Art.
