Percival Leonard Rosseau (American, 1859-1937), Setters oil on canvas, signed and dated 1909 at lower right, inscribed to verso "#24. 'Setters'," framed. Stretcher size 21 1/8 x 29 1/8 in.; Frame dimensions P. L. Rousseau began his formal art studies in Paris at the Académie Julian around 1894. By 1915, upon his return to the United States, he was well known as an accomplished sporting artist. So in demand, Percy Rockefeller loaned Rosseau gun dogs for models and built a studio for him to use at Overhills, Rockefeller's private golf and hunt club in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
