ALICIA LEAL (Cuba, 1957). "Rue, basil and camomile".2005. Acrylic on canvas. Signed in the lower left corner and on the back. Certificate attached. Measurements: 44 x 58 cm; 64 x 50 cm (frame). Cuban draughtswoman and painter. In 1980 she graduated from the San Alejandro National Academy of Fine Arts in Havana. Member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the International Association of Plastic Artists (AIAP). Member of the Commission on the International Image of Culture. In 1998 she took part in the World Solidarity Event for Women held in Havana and in the event Encuentros en la Frontera: Mujer y Progreso (Encounters on the Border: Women and Progress) held in the Spanish city of Seville. The following year she took part in the workshop on the image of Che that was held in the National Museum-Memorial Comandante Ernesto Che Guevara in Santa Clara. In 2001 he was awarded the Order for National Culture and the Diploma for Artistic Merit of the Instituto Superior de Arte. Leal has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and abroad. Works of his remain at the Center of Cuban Studies, New York, the University of St.Thomas, Houston, Texas and The National Gallery of Jamaica, Kingston, Jamaica.
