DESCRIPTION: An excellent early 19th C American portrait of a beautiful woman in a blue dress with a lace mantilla. She is standing in an interior, with a table and vase of flowers partially visible on right. I've found this style dress in many period portraits, always in Southern US works, and most similarly in works by New Orleans artist Jean Joseph Vaudechamp. A large and extremely fine example of early Southern portraiture.
