Ara Bekaryan was born on June 12,1913 in Karahissar (Western Armenia). In 1932 graduated from the artistic - industrial college, Yerevan. Studied under the direction of two distinguished artists Vahram Gayfejian and Sedrak Arakelyan. In 1939 graduated from the Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.Repin, of the Art Academy, Leningrad ( Now, St. Petersburg). Since 1945 Ara Bekaryan is Honored Art Worker of Armenian SSR, from1945 to 1986 Professor at the Institute of Fine Arts and Drama, Yerevan. Since 1965 PeopleÂ’s Artist of Arm. SSR. In addition to his love of painting, he has illustrated several books as well. Ara BekaryanÂ’s works are kept in NGA (National Gallery of Armenia), the Artistic Fund of Armenia, Funds of the Ministry of Culture for Armenia, State Tretyakov Art Gallery, as well as numerous private art collections in Armenia and throughout the world.
