Nico Vrielink was born in 1958 in Reusel, a place in the south of the Netherlands. His Father was a glassblower and saw his talent. At the age of 10 he went to the Academy of Art in Belgium. Staying there for 7 years, he built himself a solid base as an artist in the years to come. Although his father had other plans in mind such like becoming a teacher, as the life of an artist did not offer security. Nico's childhood years were spent in an atmosphere of narrow-minded provincialism. It was not until much later that the conditions of life in Reusel led to an irrepressible urge to travel and explore - and to permanent restlessness. After a period of not particular comforting jobs such as cleaning in an institute, the tide turned when he was asked to teach at an Art Academy in The Netherlands. He stayed there for over 2 years and it was short after this period that his career as an artist started and soon organized himself exhibitions worldwide. It started off with his trip to Singapore, after selling out his first exhibition in the Netherlands, where he met Jeane Seah. Later to become his wife and mother of their 2 sons, Leon and Jerome. The beginning of an immense series of paintings of her; thousands of them and with up to 30 exhibitions a year worldwide. He lived in many places and meanwhile separated from his wife. He now continues to live in Bali with his Koma. Meanwhile realism in his work is getting less and less important and the story behind it more superior. Happenings, experiences evaluated within a painting. Nico Vrielink paints as he lives and vice versa: intensely and extravagantly.
