The inflated proportions of Botero's figures suggest an element of humor or political satire and are depicted using flat, bright color and prominently outlined forms„a nod to Latin-American folk art. While his work includes still-lifes and landscapes, Botero has typically concentrated on his emblematic situational portraiture united by his subjects' proportional exaggeration. In Pedrito,Botero seems to take a tongue in cheek look at familial heirarchy. A young boy, dressed in military regalia, sits atop a rocking horse dominating the image and his parents seen at the bottom right. It's not hard to figure out who is in charge. Botero is considered the most recognized and quoted living artist from Latin America. His art is collected by many major international museums, corporations, and private collectors. In 2012, he received the International Sculpture Center's Lifetime Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award.
