Abstract painting by California and Canadian artist Margaret Peterson. Untitled - Abstraction 1952 Gouache on paperboard. Measurements: 24.25" x 29" x 2" overall including framing. About the artist: Margaret O'Hagan Peterson, (American/Canadian 1902-1997), was a ainter, illustrator, and educator. Born in Seattle, WA Peterson moved to Berkeley where she earned her M.A. degree at UC. She later studied with Hans Hofmann and Vaclav Vytlacil, and in Paris with André Lhote. She joined the art department at UC Berkeley in 1928, a position she held until 1950. Until the late 1940s her painting was influenced by Picasso and cubism, she then derived her subject matter from Northwest Indian art. In 1956 Peterson moved to Victoria, B.C.
