William Bishop Owen Jr. American (1895-1963). About the artist: William Owen was a Chicago area artist to begin his long career.. During the early 1920's William exhibited at various shows at the Art Institute winning the Butler Prize in 1921, the Eisendrath Prize in 1923, and the Thompson Prize in 1925. William participated in the WPA in New York in the 1930's. He thought art at the Chicago Art Institute, and later at the University of Virginia, Hollins College and Randolph Macon's Woman's College at Lynchburg, while still pursuing his own art. William died in 1963 and this painting, as well as many others, have been held in the collection of the family ever since.
