Abstract mid-century modern painting by Northwest artist and educator Wendell Brazeau. Titled ‘Foothills of the Alps' Date: 1961 Medium: Oil on stretched canvas. About the artist: Wendell Brazeau – American (1910-1974) was an American artist and educator who worked in Seattle, Washington. Born in Spokane, on the eastern side of Washington, Brazeau moved to Seattle in 1928 to study art at the University of Washington. Brazeau earned his BFA from the UW in 1933, he then worked for the Boeing airplane company working in illustration and engineering. During WWII Brazeau served in the American Armed Forces. After the war Brazeau return to Seattle and earned his MFA from the UW. He went on to take a teaching position at the University of Washington, where he worked as a faculty member until his death in 1974. Wendell Brazeau often showed his works in exhibitions in the Pacific Northwest, and California. His works are almost exclusively modernist in style, focusing on shape color and form to convey his ideas. Brazeau’s works are held in many institutions including the Seattle Art Museum, the Portland Art Museum, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.
