Gottlieb, Maxim B. -- "Tevye" Wonderful Painting of the Character From Tevye & His Daughters and Other Tales By Sholem Aleichem. (1903-1977) Maxim B. Gottlieb was active and lived in Pennsylvania and was known for painting, drawing and teaching frequently focusing on Jewish themes and stories. Such is the case in this wonderful oil on panel entitled Tevye is the fictional narrater and protagonist of a series of short stories by Solomon Naumovich Rabinovich (better known by his pen name Sholem Aleichem) and was originally written in Yiddish and published in 1894. Obviously the work reached international acclaim with the musical and film FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Here he has captured this beloved character beautifully with a horse pulling his old wagon, as he sets about delivering milk throughout the village of Anatevka. 14 x 20" framed beautifully in antiqued gilt wood to 18 x 25" and in excellent condition.
