In youth he settled in Paris, where he was closely connected with the masters of so called Russian abroad. At the beginning of 1920s he was interested in dadaism. Granovsky was a member of the group Cherez (“Through”). In 1923 the artist together with Sonia Delaunay and V. S. Barth designed Tristan Tzara’s play The Gas Heart. He made a series of abstract sculptures and exhibited them at the Salon of the Independents. Granovsky was one of the most vigorous and spiritual persons of the Montparnasse bohemians. Art critic Maurice Reynal remarked that “works by Granovsky did not resemble reality of our life. Elements in his works did not correspond with our conception of existed objects, although they kept their similarity with sphere and cube in construction. His art might be new way or new art movement, which would find its own proper esthetics.” In July 1942 Samuel Granovsky was arrested and sent to concentration camp.
