Sketch for the Madonna Bearers, oil on paper laid on old wood, 19 1/2 x 27 3/4 in (49.5 x 70.4 cm), signed lower left, PROVENANCE: Babcock Gallery (New York) (label verso) to William Doyle Auctions, New York. , IMPORTANT ARTWORK NOTATION: This painting was first exhibited in 1923 at The Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh in an exhibition titled " Studies by Well Known Artists " ( and there were many famous names). It was sold from this exhibition to a Dr. Saklatwalla ( collector ) of Pittsburgh and exhibited again in 1934 at The Carnegie Institute. It again appeared at auction, in 1947, at Parke - Bernet Galleries where Dr. Saklatwalla's collection was sold off.
