watercolour over pencil, each c.160 x 230mm., uniformly framed and glazed, [c.1905] (2) Robert Gwelo Goodman (1871-1939), was born in England but settled in South Africa. He studied in Paris in the mid-1890s, and exhibited at the Royal Academy in London, in 1898. Following another visit to England at the turn of the century, he travelled and painted extensively around this country and in India over the next few years, before returning to South Africa again in 1915. He was acknowledged as one of the founders of the South African school of landscape painting.
