Oil on canvas Gerhard Fietz (1910-1997) - German painter and representative of Art Informel Signed and dated ‘Fietz 70’ lower right Catalogue raisonné. Fietz 2519 Dimensions: 150 x 135 cm Mounted in black wooden frame: 153 x 139 cm Provenance. Private collection, Berlin Condition: The painting is in very good condition, showing minor rubbing of the paint. No evidence of retouching under UV light. The frame is slightly warped and minimally chipped. Gerhard Fietz (1910-1997) Gerhard Fietz was born in 1910 in Breslau and died in 1997 in Bleckede in the district Göddingen. He was one of the main 20th century painters in Germany and co-founder of the artist group ‘Zen 49’. He pleaded against the traditional figurative art and, like his fellow-artists Willi Baumeister, Fritz Winter and Rupprecht Geiger, developed a style of painting that focused on the exploration of artistic means.
