Michetti, Museo di Palazzo San Domenico in Francavilla al Mare, July-August, 1983 (two labels on the stretcher) Provenance: Private collection, Italy The present painting was awarded the National Art Prize of the Machetti Foundation in 1983 Since the 1970s, Verna was as a representative of ‘Analytical Painting’ in Italy. Painting in a free and virtuosic expressive manner, the artist dedicated his works to the aesthetic fascination of color. The ‘Analytical Painting’ was based on conceptual art and explored the basics and technical possibilities of painting. Condition: The painting shows minor craquelure and framing marks. There are traces of blurred varnish visible to the lower margin. The frame shows slight traces of usage. Claudio Verna (b. 1937) Born in the province of Chieti, Claudio Verna studied in Umbria from 1942 to 1956 and then in Florence. In 1961 he moved to Rome. A few experimental years followed before he joined the movement of ‘Analytical Painting’ around 1967. Verna has exhibited his work internationally, among others at the Biennale in Venice.
