Eugene Francis Savage (American, 1883-1978), unfinished mural study, pencil and watercolor drawing on paper depicting figures standing in archway, bare breasted woman at left leaning towards central tree and farmer with exposed back at right, signed "Eugene Savage" LR, toning, isolated foxing LR corner, tear UL extending slightly past archway into colored image, framed behind glass, not examined out of frame, ss: 13 1/2" h. x 9 1/2" w. [This work by Eugene Savage, well-known muralist and former Woodbury, CT resident, comes from the George Davidson Estate. Savage collaborated with Davidson in the installation of the mosaic murals at the Queens County Courthouse (NYC). In addition, there is some evidence that Davidson "may have been a private student or assistant of Professor Savage" while the latter served as William Leffingwell Professor of Painting at Yale University from 1928-1953.]
