Much like Borofsky's best-known 'Hammering Man' sculptures, "Untitled (Person with lightbulb)" possesses a distinct energy and sense of strength and power, carefully conveyed through the manipulation of the human form. Jonathan Borofksy's "Untitled (Person with light blub)" is an intriguing translation of the dynamic character of the artist's sculptural work to a two-dimensional medium, albeit on a massive scale. The vast, subtly-colored painting depicts a nondescript, deconstructed humanoid figure in motion, an inquisitive look on its face--appropriate, given the inclusion of the lightblub, a symbol of thought and mental acuity, in the middle of its forehead. Jonathan Borofsky (American, b.1942) Known for his colorful anthropomorphic sculptures, Jonathan Borofsky (American, b.1942) manipulates metal into towering constructions that symbolize and are testament to collective human strength. Borofksy received his MFA from Yale University in 1966 and experimented in a variety of media before turning his attention fully to sculpture. His works are counted in the distinguished collections of Tate, London; LACMA, Los Angeles, and the Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum, Okayama, among many others.
