Mühlig’ lower right in red Dimensions: 26 x 32 cm In gold-colored frame: 35.5 x 41.5 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Denmark Atmospheric rendition of an impressive Alpine landscape with a hiker as small staffage Condition: The relined and restored painting displays overall fine craquelure with minor cupping of the small paint parts, as well as pressure marks from the stretcher. Additionally, there are very scattered tiny paint losses. Mostly small touch-ups are overall visible under UV-light. The edges show slight framing abrasions. The overall impression is good. The frame displays slight signs of age and use as tiny chips and scratches but is otherwise in good condition. The small-size painting measures 26 x 32 cm. The framed dimensions are 35.5 x 41.5 cm. Bernhard Mühlig (1829-1910) As a trained taxidermist, Bernhard Mühlig came autodidactic to painting. In 1854 he took part in the first academic art exhibition in Dresden. Mühling specialized in landscape painting, executed in generous stroke, for which he found the motifs in his dwelling place Dresden and the surrounding area and in the Erzgebirge and Bohemia. Also Alpine landscapes originated. Bernhard Mühlig's paintings are hold in various German museums, including the Municipal Museum in Zwickau, which has the most extensive collection of his works.
