Oil on canvas USSR, presumably mid-20th century Viktor Grigorevich Sevastyanov (b. 1923) – Ukrainian artist, active in Kiev Presumably in collaboration with Mikhail Konstantinovich Poplavsky (1914-1994) – Ukrainian artist, Signed at the lower right by both artists in Cyrillic Typical propaganda painting in the style of Socialist realism Dimensions of canvas: 98.5 x 150 cm Framed: 116 x 165 cm Very good condition This large scale oil painting represents an interesting testimony. The political commemoration presumably served to the patriotic education of the youth. In the center Lenin is depicted sitting on a bench, he is being surrounded by five rurally dressed children. Lenin liked to be presented with children in propagandistic intent. Condition: The painting is in a very good condition with smaller signs of age and wear. The framed dimensions measure 116 x 165 cm, the dimensions of the canvas are 98.5 x 150 cm. Viktor Grigorevich Sevastyanov (b. 1923) Viktor Grigorevich Sevastyanov was born on 1st of July 1923 in Odessa and studied there at Odessa Art Institute. He moved to Kiev, where he is still active today. In 1953 he became member of the Kiev association of artists and in 1963 followed a membership with the USSR Union of Artists. Sevastyanov specialized in landscape paintings and took part in many exhibitions. Mikhail Konstantinovich Poplavsky (1914-1994) Mikhail Konstantinovich Poplavsky was born in 1914 in Klyuchova. Until 1948 he studied at the Repin Art Institute. Like Sevastyanov he was active in Kiev. Poplavsky specialized in thematic pictures. His works were on display at many important exhibitions, i.a. at the All Union Art Exhibition in Moscow in 1952. (nlu) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
