Oil on canvas, mounted on a new stretcher frame Germany, 1840 Circle of Carl Anton Joseph Rottmann (1797-1850) – German painter Monogrammed 'C[?]' and dated '1840' lower left We are grateful to Erika Rödiger-Diruf for the scientific advice Dimensions: 33.8 x 41 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Bavaria Vast landscape with mountain panorama, meandering river and two hikers – painted by an unknown artist of the circle of the South German painter Carl Anton Joseph Rottmann, who is known for his large-size landscapes and Rottmann was court painter of Ludwig I of Bavaria. Condition: The painting is in good condition consistent with the age. The varnish has been darkened and there are overall craquelure. Edges and corners show rubbed spots and scattered small retouched spots (seen under UV light) are mainly in the sky. The dimensions are 33.8 x 41 cm.
