작품 상세
Signed and dated lower left: M: Neher. 1827Michael Neher is primarily known as a painter of architecture, whose detailed city and architectural views were enlivened by their atmospheric moods and carefully painted figures. This same quality also characterises his - generally early - genre paintings, of which this scene of a fruit seller and a young customer provides a fine example. The work is comparable to a significantly smaller piece painted in the same year showing a similar composition with a knife grinder and several other figures before a detailed architectural backdrop (formerly coll. of Georg Schäfer, Schweinfurt, illus. in “Münchner Maler im 19. Jahrhundert“, vol. 3, Munich 1982, p. 217).Neher studied at the Munich academy under Matthias Klotz and Angelo I Quaglio. He later took a six-year sojourn to Italy, and worked on the frescoes of Hohenschwangau palace.
