Marcel René Herrfeldt (1889-1965) Born in Paris, Herrfeldt devoted himself to art at an early age and studied painting in Munich, Florence and Paris. Regarding his painting style and his choice of subjects, he was influenced mainly by Franz von Stuck in Munich. In 1921, he presented his works for the first time on the occasion of the annual exhibition of the Munich Secession at the Glass Palace, which brought him major awareness. During the Third Reich, the Munich Secession was dissolved, and it was only in 1951 that Herrfeldt continued to work in his studio in Munich. Herrfeldt’s work can be divided into an early phase of works in the Art Nouveau style and in a later period with expressive realist works. He shared his preference for female nudes with numerous contemporaries, such as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, and with art movements, such as the Vienna Secession.
