Oil on hardboard Düsseldorf, Germany, 1970s Werner Peiner (1897-1984) – Düsseldorf painter and graphic artist Signed lower left ‘Peiner’ Dimensions: 65 x 50 cm (height x width) Good condition The present work of Werner Peiner was created during the 1970s. The Virgin Mary is shown in half figure, facing to the right. She wears a red dress and a purple mantle, which falls down from head head. Holding the child with both hands in her arm, and incline her head toward to him. The child is approaching with gentle gesture of his mother. From the loins down it is wrapped in a cloth. Peiner increasingly devoted himself to the theme of Mary with child, especially in the 1970s. His Madonna with child is obviously reminiscent of late Renaissance models and was inspired by an Italy trip, as well as other Madonna paintings and views of Italian cities and landscapes. The work is signed lower left ‘Peiner’. It is in good condition. Traces of a former framing can be found along the edges. The hardboard measures 65 x 50 cm (height x width).
