작품 상세
Jules Dupre (French 1811 ? 1889). Important member of the Barbizon school noted for his love of dramatic skies and the light and contrasts of rapidly changing weather. He learned to paint in southern England so he had plenty experience of weather, and where he was exposed to the genius of Constable, the master of English landscape painting, who greatly influence the young artist. In this large canvas the center of attention is a rider on a draft horse in harness pulling a barge along a towpath that crosses a bridge. All the muscular action of horse & rider contrasts beautifully with the peaceful sunlit river landscape and distant village and church tower under a bright summer sky following a rainstorm. Signed ?J Dupre? lower right. Dated.. Size: 46h x 39w inches.
