Hermann Kern (1838-1912) Hermann Kern, also known as Hermann Armin von Kern, was born in 1838 in the Hungarian Liptoujvar. In 1852 he took first drawing lessons in Prague. In the Mid-1850's he began to study at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Carl Rahl. In 1867 he received a scholarship for the Academy in Düsseldorf, in 1870 he went to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he studied with Carl Theodor von Piloty.
