Restretched and relined Gallatin was a United States Senator 1793-1794, member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania's 12th district 1795-1801, United States Minister to France 1816-1823, United States Minister to the United Kingdom 1826-1827, longest serving United States Secretary of the Treasury 1801-1814, one of the founders of the University of the City of New York (now New York University) 1831, and President of the National Bank in New York 1831-1839.
