§ Mary Potter (British, 1900-1981) Village Landscape, Aldeburgh signed lower right with initials "MP" watercolour h:18 w:20 cm Provenance: The New Art Centre, 41 Sloane Street, London SW1, where purchased by the vendor in 1991 from the artist's estate. Exhibited: Gallery 44, The 44th Aldeburgh Exhibition, "Mary Potter at Aldeburgh", June 1991. Mary Potter was born on 9 April 1900 at Beckenham, Kent. She studied at the Slade School from 1918–1921, winning a Slade Scholarship in 1919. She exhibited with the New English Art Club from 1922, under her maiden name of Mary (Marian) Attenborough, and the London Group from 1929, member 1938; member of the 7 & 5 Society 1922–3. Her first one-man show was at the Bloomsbury Gallery 1931. She married Stephen Potter in 1927 and lived at Aldeburgh, Suffolk
