Figurative scenes from everyday life as in the present small painting are a popular subject of the German painter Anton Burger (1824-1905). He was born in Frankfurt and studied there from 1842 on at the Städelschule. A study at the Munich Academy followed. The oil painting on canvas is laid on cardboard. There is very fine craquelure underneath the varnish. Additionally there are minor framing traces. The overall condition is age-appropriate good. The frame bears occasional small material losses and slight signs of age and wear. The painting measures 14.7 x 20 cm, the framed dimensions are 28.5 x 33 cm.
