Oil on masonite Germany, 1966 Walter Wellenstein (1898-1970) - German painter and graphic artist, active mainly in Berlin Signed lower right 'Wellenstein' Inscribed, dated and titled on the reverse 'Walter Wellenstein Berlin - 1966 Häuschen in der Heide 45 x 38' Dimensions: 38.1 x 45.4 cm Very good condition Walter Wellenstein caught the atmosphere in his landscape paintings; the auction record for a painting by the artist is currently set at €3,000 This is one of Walter Wellenstein's atmospheric landscape paintings influenced by Impressionism. It was created in 1966 and shows a small cottage in a wide heather landscape. The painting shows the interest of the artist in the effect of color. Rust-red and mint green alternate in the house as well as in the environment and are thereby dominating the composition. The painting is signed lower right 'Wellenstein', as well as inscribed, dated and titled on the reverse 'Walter Wellenstein Berlin - 1966 Häuschen in der Heide 45 x 38'. The painting is in very good condition, there are merely framing marks. The frame is designed in an intended used-look. The masonite measures 38.1 x 45.4 cm and the dimensions of the frame are 45.8 x 53.1 cm. Walter Wellenstein (1898-1970) From 1918 to 1924 the German painter, draughtsman and graphic artist Walter Wellenstein studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Berlin in the class of Emil Orlik. Wellenstein began his professional career as an illustrator for book editions by Gogol, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Ibsen and Strindberg. In paintings, drawings and prints he focuses on portraits and figural compositions. Wellenstein is regarded as an important painter of the Weimar Republic.
