Hellgrewe' Representative golden stucco frame Dimensions: 100 x 82 cm Good Condition Provenance: Private Collection, Sweden Rudolf Hellgrewe was known for his landscapes of the March which he often repeated in slightly varying way; on his journeys to the East, he gained further impressions and subjects for his paintings, which fetch up to €19,000 at international auctions This evocaticve landscape painting was created by the Berlin painter Rudolf Hellgrewe. Many of his images show lakes and sunsets in the landscape of the March, as does the painting presented here, in which two trees, bathed in a gentle sunset, are the main subject of the composition. Hellgrewe painted this subject several times in slightly different versions. The painting is signed lower right 'R. Hellgrewe'. It is overall in good condition, no findings under UV. The surface is partially scattered spray stains. Light framing traces around the edges. The frame with slight traces of use. Dimensions stretcher: 100 x 82 cm. Framed dimensions: 121 x 103 cm. Rudolf Hellgrewe (1860-1926) The painter Rudolf Hellgrewe was born in 1860 in West Prussian Hammerstein. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Art under Eugen Bracht and Christian Wilberg. After his journey to East Africa from 1985-86 he created numerous images with oriental subjects, moreover, he was illustrating travel literature. He was also co-founder of the German Colonial Museum.
