The Austrian-born artist experimented in his paintings with the impact and perception of colors, shapes and surfaces. In our painting he presents a composition of 5 x 5 squares, which appear in slightly different shades of rosé which transfers the viewer's eye in an optical illusion. The painting is titled, signed and dated verso on the canvas 'OP 403 Db. Tornquist. 1971' and marked with the artist's stamp. It is in good condition. At the center upper edge slightly rubbed. Lower left tiny stain. Otherwise overall of very good impression. Dimensions of stretcher: 80 x 80 cm. Jorrit Tornquist (born 1938) Jorrit Tornquist was born in Graz in 1938. He studied architecture at the University of Graz, where the focus of his work was already on colors and shapes. In 1999 he was appointed Scientific Director of the Istituto del colore di Milano in Milan. He has published several scientific articles on theories of composition. His artworks can be found in international collections such as the Neue Galerie Graz, the Progressive Museum Basel, the Museo delle Arti Internazionale Applicate Oggi in Turin and in the Hermitage in St. Petersburg.
