Dimensions: 61 x 22 x 14 cm Very good condition Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist, since then private collection Southern Germany Characteristic sculptural work by the artist Rupprecht Geiger, whose abstract works focus almost exclusively on extensive painting in bright colors; his three-dimensional works fetch up to 46,000 euros at international auctions This sculptural work was created by the German abstract painter Rupprecht Geiger in 2001, produced in a total edition of 12 copies. Geiger, who initially studied architecture, began to educate himself in painting during the war on the Eastern Front. His abstract works deal only with shapes and colors, therefor Geiger is considered one of the most important German representatives of the so called color field painting. Simple geometrical shapes such as circle, square as well as rectangular and oval shapes are the subject, executed in various bright colors they produce an intense contrasts. Even in his three-dimensional works such as the present wall object, shape and color are the defining components. The concave surfaces of the wooden object are covered with fluorescent pink and yellow, merging into a soft orange before at one place. The wooden support material moreover creates a striking contrast its structure and color. The wall object is signed dated and numbered "Geiger, 2001, 3/12" on the right side in pencil. It is overall in very good condition with only slight superficial blemishes in the wood, yet hardly noticeable. The upper left corner of the yellow card is minimally bumped. The dimensions are 61 x 22 x 14 cm. Rupprecht Geiger (1908 - 2009) The German abstract painter and sculptor Rupprecht Geiger was the son of the painter Willi Geiger. 1929 Rupprecht Geiger completed his architecture studies at the art school in Munich before he continued studying at the state building school. After his studies and until 1962 he worked in various architecture practices. Meanwhile he started painting and between 1943 and 1944 he was employed as a war painter before he became Professor for painting at the state art academy in Düsseldorf. Geiger accomplished his life work around the theme "color" in reduced and clear compositions. Geiger exhibited widely at the documenta in Kassel, as well as at the Biennial in Sao Paolo. In 2008 he had two large retrospectives in the Lenbachhaus in Munich and at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin. Moreover, he was awarded numerous European prizes.
