His paintings sell for up to 26,000 euros in the international art market The present oil painting is the work of the US-American artist Lowell Nesbitt and is part of his 'Apollo' series, dated circa 1970. Nesbitt was nominated the official artist of the NASA space missions Apollo 9 and Apollo 13 in the years 1969 and 1970. His work has often been attributed to photo-realism, though he had a more lyrical and subjective approach to his subject matters. The present painting is a beautiful example of the strong suggestive and expressive power inherent in Nesbitt's works. The painting is in good condition with scattered, small paint losses and minor framing marks. The overall dimensions, framed, are 67.5 x 67.5 cm. The tenter frame measures 66 x 66 cm. Lowell Blair Nesbitt (1933-1993) Lowell Blair Nesbitt is one of the most influential painters of realistic American post-war art. He studied at the Tyler School of Art of the Temple University in Philadelphia (1951-1955). He then attended the Royal Academy of Arts in London and was trained in the techniques of printmaking and stained glass. His famous studio, which he used in the 1970s in New York also as a place of residence, was a gathering place for prominent figures of the art world, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Indiana, Jasper Johns, Robert Motherwell and James Rosenquist. Works by Nesbitt are on display in numerous public collections, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the National Art Gallery in Washington.
