Dr and Mrs N C Low, Leicester. Rigby Graham is principally a landscape and topographic artist. Born in Manchester in 1931, he attended Leister College of Art from 1947-1954 to specialise in mural painting; he returned later in his career to teach a number of disciplines at the College. Since a visit to Ireland during his teens, the Irish and British landscape has been prominent in much of his art, with Neo-Romantic influences of artists such as Graham Sutherland and Keith Vaughan. John Piper has championed Graham's work, commenting on his enviable capacity to make dramatic images out of ordinary landscapes with the use of bold colour and striking contrasts. Rigby has had a thriving career with more than a hundred one-man exhibitions.
