A.B. Frost. Barnyard Scene. Oil on canvas, signed "A. B. Frost" at lower left; A.B. Frost (Arthur Burdett Frost) was born in 1851 in Philadelphia and went on to have a significant career as an illustrator and graphic artist, producing hundreds of paintings and over 90 books. He also worked at Harper Brothers with the great Frederic Remington, later studying painting under Thomas Eakins. Frost painted the original Aunt Jemima for the pancake mix advertising campaign in 1893. Frost's hunt scenes, especially those including birds are very collectable. This colorful and well done barnyard scene makes vibrant use of his palette in the colors of the chickens, roosters and in the afternoon shade of the yard. Framed to an overall size of: 22 x 16", canvas: 18 x 12". Excellent condition. Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
