Signed Hilda Chancellor Pope 1913-1976: Watercolor, Valley Scene Hilda Chancellor-Pope is a sincere and earnest artist who states, "I think that it is necessary in this busy world for people to have some appreciation of art." And, Mrs. Pope is doing her utmost to carry out this tenet. Born in 1913 in Catford, Kent, England she attended the Bromley Art School and Toyal College of Art where she won the art traveling scholarship. She has had one-man shows at the Walker Gallery and Leicester Gallery in London and art galleries in Sheffield, Guildford, Farnham and Petersfield. Her mixed shows include Fine Arts, London, Royal Academy, Women's Inter? [this bit is glued under the seal] ?shown in America, Australia and Canada and has done mural painting for the London University and for the Festival of Britain in 1951. Speaking at ease of her work, Hilda comments, "I have experimented with various mediums, especially water color and particularly gouache. This medium seems to suit my way of working in landscapes. It is a great pleasure for me to work on the spot and capture the feeling of time and place. I also greatly enjoy original lithography. This is an excellent medium to bring good works of art within the compass of many people." "I spend part of most days painting and on work preparation. I usually have a number of works in various stages of completion and find it a great relief after spending many hours on one to go to something of a different nature and medium." In addition to her extremely busy day consecrated to her own creations, Hilda Chancellor-Pope teaches a few adult education art classes in the evening. "I find that many find relaxation and a sense of fulfillment through some sort of artistic activity." All of which, of course, is consistent with this dedicated artist's theory that art appreciation is necessary in our busy world. Size: 25" by 21 1/4" Framed
