The painting particularly captivates by the detailed reproduction of the flowers and their bright colours, clearly standing out against the brownish background. Additional charming details, like the dewdrop on the flower vase and the bee at the lower end of the image, are particularly striking. The painting is signed lower right 'F. Pieler'. It is in good condition, showing some framing marks along the edges. The beautiful, gold colored wood frame is in very good condition, featuring only minor signs of wear and age. The overall dimensions with frame are 59 x 52 cm, the canvas measuring 41 x 34 cm. Franz Xaver Pieler (1876/79-1952) The Viennese flower painter Franz Xaver Pieler first studied decorative painting and the craft of gilding. He then worked as a house and decorative painter in Berlin, Osterode and Magdeburg. Since 1911, he worked as an art critic and restorer in Vienna. Finally, during the mid-1920s, he elaborated his independent artistic style. He was inspired by Dutch and Viennese flower painters. Through tireless nature studies, he finally achieved true mastery in flower and still life painting.
