Other Notes: Theophila Palmer, otherwise known as Offy, was the second daughter of John Palmer, Attorney, of Great Torrington, Devon, by Mary Reynolds, sister of Sir Joshua Reynolds She married on 18 June 1781, Robert Lovell Gwatkin (1757-1843) of Killiow, Truro, High Sheriff of Cornwall. Her eldest sister, Mary (1750-1820) married 1st Marquis of Thomond. Both sisters lived with their uncle Sir Joshua in London. Fanny Burney wrote of the sisters in her diary: " ... The elder Miss Palmer seems to have a better understanding than Offy, but Offy has the most pleasant face ...".
