Oil on wood Belgium, 17th Century Circle of Jan Frans van Bloemen (1662-1749) Lower left ligated monogram "AB" Atmospheric and realistic natural scene Overall dimensions, framed: 45.7 x 53.7 cm The focus of this oil painting on wood from the circle of the Belgian artist Jan Frans van Bloemen (Antwerp 1662 - 1749 Rome) is a brown horse in a vast mountain and meadows landscape. Behind it and to its side, a cow, four sheep and a goat have sit down to rest. Almost unnoticed is the shepherdess of this herd, who has pitched a tent at the right edge, surrounded by two sheep, a goat and a horse. Only when one gets very close to the painting, you can see the vague outlines of a farmer with other animals in the middle of the painting. In the background opens the wide landscape under a sky covered with dark clouds. The condition of the painting is good with slight signs of aging. The painting has been varnished and in some places the paint was repaired. The wood panel shows a horizontal crack due to dryness. Below left is the ligated monogram "AB". The oil painting is framed in a simple, partially gilt wood frame. On the bottom is a plaque with the inscription "Jan Frans van Bloemen - 17. Jahrhundert" (17υth Century). The wooden frame is slightly bumped and shows a partial loss of gilding as well as traces of an inactive woodworm infestation and white color spots on the top. The overall framed dimensions are 45.7 x 53.7 cm. The wooden panel measures 31.8 x 40 cm.
