작품 상세
''Freight Stop'', Carrizozo Station, New Mexico, circa 1965, signed lower right: Peter Hurd, with artist's notations along the lower right tape edge: Check design of far side eave!, watercolor with white gouache highlights on paper, 27'' H x 40.25'' W, est: $8000/12,000. Exhibited: Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe, NM, ''Peter Hurd and Henriette Wyeth'', June - August 1965. Note: In 1899 Carrizozo became the station on the main line for the El Paso and Northeastern Railway, causing the small town to flourish. With the decline in passenger train travel in the mid-twentieth century, the population decreased and the last passenger train passed through the station in 1968. Carrizozo is located about 30 miles from Peter Hurd's home in San Patricio, New Mexico. In ''Freight Stop'', Hurd enhances the atmosphere of the train depot's rural location by painting the station, train and tracks in fine detail beneath an endless New Mexican sky.
