SAM GILLIAM (1933 - ) Untitled. Watercolor on thin Japan paper, 1970. 610x940 mm; 24x37 inches. Signed and dated in pencil, lower center. Provenance: private Washington, DC collection. Sam Gilliam's early 1970s works on paper imitated his experimental draped canvases and floor paintings. They were also stained and saturated--the reaction of the thin paper to the wet paint was incorporated into the image-making.
