Adoration of the Shepherds with the Virgin in the foreground to right, covering the infant Christ who is lying on a bundle of hay; behind her, St Joseph; a large group of spectators behind a fence to left and two kneeling shepherd in the foreground; a dog and a man carrying a lantern in the foreground to left. 1740 etching by Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich (1712-1774), here rendered as a black ink drawing by Johann Michael Frey (1750-1819).
