'Portrait of a Woman in a Bonnet Hat and Elaborate Shaw'. Circa 1918. Pastel on arched topped embossed and gilt edged cardboard. Signed and dated lower right. Note: Born near Dayton, Ohio, Walter Beck became a well-known late 19th century artist who worked in a wide range of mediums and subject matter. He even perfected a new painting technique using a starch-film on blotting paper. In the 1930s, he turned his talents to landscape design and began creating 'Innisfree', one of the premier gardens in the United States near Millbrook, NY.
