Schnaebeli, Heinrich 1824 Salzwedel - 1915 (?). The award-winning Tallos in the stable. Hand-coloured photograph on photo cardboard. Signed lower left and dated 1880. On the passepartout painted description banner inscribed by hand with the horse's and its owner's data. Verso on the backboard stamp of the Internationaler Club Baden-Baden. H 36, W 50 cm (passepartout). Framed. As one of the most famous sports photographers of his time, Schnaebeli had numerous noble race and thoroughbred horses in front of his lense. A special feature of his photographs is often the colouring and overpainting he does afterwards to gain a combination of snapshot and painting. Emphasising the depicted animal even more, the mixture of original photograph and painting also allows for the addition of further details. Provenance: private collection Markgräflerland. Condition report: Good overall impression. Sheet barely noticeably undulated due to technique, faint craquelure with resulting tiny spots of paint loss (approx. 1 to 2 mm) as well as small spots of retouching (approx. 2 to 4 mm) in the area of the horse. H. 36, B. 50 cm (Passepartoutausschnitt). Gerahmt. Als einer der bekanntesten Sportphotographen seiner Zeit lichtete Schnaebeli zahlreiche edle Rasse- und Vollblutpferde ab. Besonderes Merkmal seiner Photographien sind oftmals die nachträglichen Kolorierungen und Übermalungen, die er vornimmt, um eine Kombination aus Momentaufnahme und Gemälde zu gewinnen. Die Mischung aus Originalaufnahme und Malerei hebt das dargestellte Tier noch mehr hervor und lässt das Hinzufügen von weiteren Details zu. Provenienz: Privatsammlung Markgräflerland. Zustandsbericht: Guter Gesamteindruck. Blatt technikbedingt kaum merklich wellig, leichtes Krakelee mit daraus resultierenden winzigen Farbabplatzungen (ca. 1 bis 2 mm) sowie kl. Retuschen (ca. 2 bis 4 mm) im Bereich des Pferdes. Das Werk wurde nicht ausgerahmt.
