Fred Ross (Canadian, 1927-2014) Untitled (Seated Woman), black chalk on paper, c. early 2000s. Signed upper right. Framed. Fred Ross was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. He studied art at the Saint John Vocational School, Mount Allison University, and the University of New Brunswick. He studied murals in Mexico in 1949 and then returned to Saint John where he then produced several murals in the Maritimes. In 1950, he briefly visited Mexico again, and met Diego Rivera. In 1970, he resigned his position as Supervisor of Art at the Saint John Vocational School where he had been teaching since the 1950s, to devote his time fully to painting. Ross was the recipient of the Order of Canada and the Order of New Brunswick.
