Erle Loran Untitled, Nude Circa 1930s ink on paper 18 x 12 inches Signed on reverse Good condition In-house shipping $25 Erle Loran (1905-1999) was a noted artist, teacher and art theorist and one of the founders of what is now called the Berkeley School, a group of painters that includes John Haley and Worth Ryder. He wrote an influential book on Cezanne in the 1940s and had a long relationship with Hans Hoffman, who came to Berkeley in the 1950s. Loran had solo exhibitions at numerous museums including the San Francisco Museum of Art (now SFMOMA) in 1936, 1939, 1944 and 1952. He appeared in many group shows including the 1955 Sao Paulo Biennial, numerous shows at SFMOMA, Pasadena Museum of Art, California Palace of the Legion of Honor; and the Stanford Art Gallery 1956.
