HANS GUSTAV BURKHARDT DANCING FEMALE NUDES OIL PAINTING; (1904-1994), pencil signed and dated, 'H. Burkhardt 1945' (lower right), Canson Montgolfier's watermark can be seen in the paper, along with two other watermarks, with bold lines, rich color palette and strong composition, creates a resonating energy that extends outward to the viewer! Arguably, this may be the finest nude painting that he ever created! DETAILS: - SIZE: 24 x 18-1/2 In. (artwork) / 30-1/2 x 24-3/4 In.(framed) - CONDITION: The thin metal frame has a few nicks/scratches (normal wear), The painting has several tiny tack holes on the upper corners. Otherwise, the painting is in excellent condition. When examining the painting under an ultraviolet light, I did not find evidence of inpainting. The signature is original to the painting and it did not fluoresce under an ultraviolet light. BACKGROUND: Burkhardt represented the most significant bridge between New York and Los Angeles in that his paintings of the 1930s are part of the genesis of American abstract expressionism. Burkhardt's ability to evoke compelling works of human empathy has led several of today's preeminent art historians and critics to regard many of his paintings to be among the major works of our time.
