THOMAS COLE Three studies of trees. Each pencil on paper, circa 1827. Each with the four corners trimmed diagonally and tipped onto a larger sheet of dark brownish wove paper; the support sheets measuring approximately 178x115 mm; 7x4 1/2 inches. Each signed in pencil, recto; one dated and inscribed "Catskill mtn stump" in pencil along the lower sheet edge; and one inscribed "Cedar" along the lower sheet edge. Ex-collection Paul Magriel Collection, New York; Rita and Daniel Fraad Collection, each with the original collection labels on the frame backs; thence by descent to the current owner.
